Brian Knudson

Next Adventure, Portland, OR
1. Which brands frustrated you the most this season with their holiday discounting/promotions?
I don’t really think about it too much. The ones that bother me are the ones that open a brand store in your neighborhood. That affects us more than brands just sending emails.
2. What’s the one new type of product you’re really hoping to find this week?
We’re looking for some well-priced snowboards in the $200 range. Our customers are looking for that budget option.
3. If you could go skiing with anyone in the industry, who would it be?
Probably my own buying team. They’re awesome guys and great skiers.
Brette Schell

Christy Sports, Dillon, CO
1. Which brands frustrated you the most this season with their holiday discounting/promotions?
All of them. Burton was super-aggressive, sending lots of emails.
2. What’s the one new type of product you’re really hoping to find this week?
I want to find the little startups and work on building relationships with them like we did with Noso Patches before they exploded.
3. If you could go skiing with anyone in the industry, who would it be?
I want to get into the backcountry with the Never Summer crew.
David Crane

Crane’s Store, Williamsburg, MO
1. Which brands frustrated you the most this season with their holiday discounting/promotions?
All of them. Especially when everyone went to MAP pricing—our online business went to virtually zero, because why would someone buy from a shop they don’t know when Carhartt has the same price direct?
2. What’s the one new type of product you’re really hoping to find this week?
Rather than search for things, I come here to talk with brands that I’ve already used and like.
3. If you could go skiing with anyone in the industry, who would it be?
I don’t ski that much, but I’m meeting a bunch of fraternity guys at Winter Park, which I’m excited about.
Patrick Morgan

Peak Resorts Shops, White Haven, PA
1. Which brands frustrated you the most this season with their holiday discounting/promotions?
I hate to say this question doesn’t apply to us, but we simply focus on doing business with brands that don’t frustrate us.
2. What’s the one new type of product you’re really hoping to find this week?
We aren’t so much looking for that new product, but rather looking to build multiyear partnerships with brands that excite our customer base.
3. If you could go skiing with anyone in the industry, who would it be?
As great as riding a deep, remote-access low field with an industry celeb would be, I’d really rather ride with some of the faces behind the partners we work with.
Andrea Moore

Monarch Mountain Sport Shop, Monarch, CO
1. Which brands frustrated you the most this season with their holiday discounting/promotions?
More than discounts, we had one brand’s rep who simply stopped responding back to our area. We wanted to get something awesome on the shelf for the holidays and we couldn’t.
2. What’s the one new type of product you’re really hoping to find this week?
Always the new goggle. Some of our customers want new features, others just want improvements.
3. If you could go skiing with anyone in the industry, who would it be?
Candide Thovex. I couldn’t keep up, but it’d be sweet.
