While each and every shot of the 5Point Adventure Film Festival’s trailer for this year is captivating, it’s the narration that you want to pay attention to.
The words were written—and are spoken in the 3 1/2-minute video— by legendary alpinist Michael Kennedy for his son, Hayden Kennedy, in a letter that was published by The Alpinist Magazine in 2012. After tragically losing Hayden Kennedy last year, his parents wanted to repurpose the message about life, passion, and direction for a wider audience.
At 27, Hayden Kennedy died after his partner, Inge Perkins, was killed in an avalanche while they were skiing on Imp Peak in October 2017.
“The letter reminds us to live our own individual adventures, passions, lives and to always try our best to reach for the highest ideals and embody the 5points: purpose, respect, commitment, humility, balance,” according to a news release announcing the kick-off video.
The trailer was unveiled Thursday for the Carbondale, Colorado, festival, founded in 2007 by Julie Kennedy, Hayden’s mother. It was created by Boulder-based filmmaker Aiden Haley for the festival happening April 19 to 22.
5Point has released a limited number of tickets available across the four-day program. Passes and tickets can be purchased through 5pointfilm.org/tickets.
