From outdated facilities to crumbling roads to well-traveled trails, many national parks are in need of facelifts with a total price tag of more than $11.6 billion. In order for generations to come to enjoy the parks’ wonders and rejuvenating magic, that maintenance backlog must be addressed, according to the National Park Service.

“Over the years, aging facilities, growing visitation, and limited resources have made that task even harder, resulting in a backlog of maintenance work,” the NPS wrote. “We have an integrated set of systems to record and track the maintenance needs of park facilities, including the delayed repairs that are collectively called ‘deferred maintenance.'”

This new 3-minute video released on Thursday is filmed from the perspective of the national parks, and meant to inspire people to get involved and advocate for their preservation.
